Partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and member of BLG’s Shipping Focus Group, Jean-Marie Fontaine practises across maritime and transportation law, handling cargo, freight and demurrage claims, collisions, spills, shipbuilding and charterparty disputes, ship and cargo arrests, marine insurance defence and regulatory matters, and aviation and trucking claims. He advises on contracts (affreightment, logistics and warehousing agreements, charterparties), ship purchase/sale/financing, coasting trade licences and vessel importation/registration; has represented clients before civil and administrative courts including the Supreme Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Québec Court of Appeal and the Canadian Transportation Agency; and is active in the maritime community as a co-author and association director.
