He is a former Panamanian Minister of Foreign Relations (1998) and has served as Panama's Ambassador to the United Nations (2004) and to the United States (1994); he has also held leadership roles at La Prensa and the Panamanian Stock Exchange and sits on the boards of Banco General and Copa Airlines.
