Juan Calvente is Of Counsel of the Employment practice of Simmons & Simmons in Spain, advising on both contentious and non-contentious employment issues. Juan has extensive expertise in employment litigation, dealing with all type of conflicts, whether collective or individual, and also in restructuring and outsourcing projects, all types of collective negotiations and Trade Unions relationships. He advises regularly on all matters within Employment Law, such as advice and negotiations regarding senior executives (hiring, termination, remuneration, etc.), Equality plans and non-discrimination issues, employment aspects of cross-border transactions, pension and remuneration schemes, disciplinary procedures, internal investigations or dealings with Labour Administration and Labour Inspection, amongst other issues. Juan advises a wide range of national and international clients from start-up companies to multinational corporations across all of the firm’s core sectors (Financial Institutions, Insurance companies, Energy, TMT, Asset Management and Investment Funds, Life Sciences and the pharmaceutical industry). Juan joined Simmons & Simmons as Of Counsel in 2022. Previously he was Of Counsel and Head of the employment practice of another UK international law firm. He started his professional career in the employment field as Labour Inspector, having performed the positions as Head of the Labour inspection in Toledo (1992-1994) and Technical advisor to the General Directorate of Labour Inspection (1994-1996). Juan has been a mediator of the SIMA (National Service of Mediation and Arbitration, a national body managed by employers´ organizations and Trade Unions) and is now one of the arbitrators of said body. Juan is a Founding Partner of Forelab, one of the main employment lawyers´ associations in Spain and is also member of its Executive Committee. Juan is also a member of the European Employment Lawyers Association and a recurrent lecturer in leading business schools, usually participating as a lecturer and teacher in different courses and conferences about Employment Law.
