He was appointed as an Accredited Specialist in Building and Construction Law by the Singapore Academy of Law in 2023. The accreditation scheme was introduced as a mark of recognition for a select group of legal practitioners who have gained professional excellence in their areas of practice. He was also recognised by Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific as a Future Star in Construction in 2023 – 2025. Reuben has a broad-based practice in commercial litigation and international arbitration, with a particular focus on construction and trust disputes. He also has significant experience advising parties in ongoing construction projects. He also has experience drafting construction contracts for various types of projects including plants. He has been involved in contentious work in Singapore and the region relating to the construction of petrochemical plants, desalination and water treatment facilities, pipelines, commercial buildings, mass rapid transit projects, integrated residential complexes, data centres, as well as in dredging and land reclamation projects. He is also familiar with the SIA, REDAS, PSSCOC and FIDIC standard form contracts, and frequently argues disputes concerning EPC and D&B contracts. Reuben regularly appears as lead counsel before the Supreme Court, in arbitrations under various institutions, and in adjudications (and adjudication reviews) under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2004. He recently appeared as lead counsel before a three-Judge panel of the Singapore International Commercial Court in an application to set aside an arbitration award. He has particular expertise in arguing Delay-related construction claims. He is well-acquainted with the various forms of critical path analysis, and frequently cross-examines expert witnesses on Delay and Quantum issues. He is also familiar with urgent injunctive relief, including Anton Piller orders and restraining calls on performance bonds. Reuben read law at the University of Cambridge where he ranked fourth in his cohort for Tripos IA, and was the only candidate to receive First Class grades for every subject taken in that examination. Reuben was appointed as young amicus curiae in a three-Judge High Court panel chaired by the Chief Justice that rendered a landmark decision on sentencing principles for offences under the Workplace Safety and Health Act 2006.
