Robert Hegarty

Robert Hegarty is a New Zealand qualified lawyer now based in Fieldfisher´s Hamburg office. He provides advice to our clients across a number of sectors regarding the ever-increasing spectrum of Data Protection and other tech related topics. His work involves helping clients pragmatically understand and manage data protection risks in both their day-to-day and long-term operations. This includes helping respond to data subject and regulator requests, reviewing new and existing products and services, drafting privacy notices and data protection impact assessments, drafting and negotiating data processing agreements, assisting with the management of data security incidents, addressing international transfer challenges and helping ensure compliance with direct marketing and cookie requirements. On top of this, he has particular experience helping clients with multi-jurisdictional delivery of products and services. This has included extensive coordination of local counsel reviews and assisting clients with assessing and addressing data protection risks that are identified. The products and services reviewed have included ones from the Life Science sector that involve sensitive health data, as well as other higher risk processing activities. The companies that he works with come from a large variety of sectors. However, he has particular experience in the Life Science sector, with major tech firms and with e-commerce companies.
