Catriona is a Partner and Head of our Banking & Finance practice. Catriona acts for both lenders and borrowers and advises on financial regulatory matters, project finance, investment grade syndicated financings, real estate and structured finance. Based in the UAE since 2007, Catriona has extensive regional expertise and brings a commercially driven, pragmatic approach when advising her clients. Catriona is highly sought after for her breadth of English law and UAE law banking expertise and regularly acts for international and regional clients in advising on financial regulatory and digital asset issues in the UAE. Catriona has published extensively on the continually evolving UAE financial regulatory landscape. Catriona also has in-depth in-house experience gained from her previous role as Head of Legal for Wholesale Banking at one of the largest banks in the UAE and is able to bring this combined private practice and in-house expertise, together with her English law and UAE law background, in providing a holistic view and “seeing both sides of the table” when advising clients on complex financings. Prior to coming to the UAE, Catriona worked in London at a magic circle law firm.

Before joining the Firm in 1998, Catriona worked in Brussels and London. She is qualified as a solicitor both in England & Wales and in Scotland. Although she has a wide-ranging practice, her particular areas of expertise are cartels and contentious competition proceedings. She has acted in a number of major EU and UK cases, including several successful leniency applications. She has extensive experience of private damages cases in England & Wales, Scotland and other jurisdictions, acting for both claimants and defendants, and in the Competition Appeal Tribunal and in the ordinary courts. She was recently described as an opponent in litigation as “someone to have on your side, not against you". Her practice also includes advising on merger clearances, competition complaints, state aids and public procurement as well as other areas of European and competition law. Catriona has experience of anti-dumping proceedings and European Court challenges. Catriona has for a number of years contributed to Getting the Deal Through's publication Private Antitrust Litigation and contributed the Scotland chapter to a major textbook on International Competition Litigation.

Catriona Watt is a Partner specialising in contentious partnership law as well as employment and discrimination law. Cavinder is the Chief Executive Officer of Drew & Napier. He has an active practice in complex litigation and international arbitration. He is engaged in trial and appellate advocacy at all levels of the Singapore Courts and has appeared as counsel in international arbitration in various countries. He is also co-head of the Competition Law & Regulatory Practice. Cavinder graduated with First Class Honours in law from Oxford University in 1992. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales the following year, placing fourth in the Bar examinations. He returned to Singapore and passed the Singapore Bar exams, winning the prize for top candidate. Cavinder worked for the Chief Justice of Singapore as a Justices' Law Clerk before joining Drew & Napier in 1994 as a litigation associate. In 1995, he was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship and left for Harvard Law School where he received an LL.M. He passed the New York Bar exams and was admitted to practice in New York. Cavinder practised as a litigation associate with Sullivan & Cromwell in New York until late 1997 when he returned to Singapore and Drew & Napier. He was made a partner of Drew & Napier in 1998 and a Director of the firm in May 2002. He was appointed Senior Counsel by the Chief Justice of Singapore in 2008, one of a handful to have been accorded the honour before the age of 40. Cavinder is on the Governing Board of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), is Vice-President of the Court of Arbitration of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and on the Advisory Board of the AFSA International Arbitration Rules Drafting Committee. He was a member of the World Bank Sanctions Board from 2018 to 2023, a former Vice-President of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group, and served as Chairman of the Singapore Stock Exchange’s Disciplinary Committee from 2017 to 2023. He was also a member of the Securities and Industries Council from 2016 to 2022.
