Niklas Brüggemann
Dr. Niklas Brüggemann advises companies on the full spectrum of competition law, particularly at the intersection of technology and antitrust. Niklas draws on extensive experience at the EU and national level, both in private practice and as a public official, to guide cutting-edge companies on: EU and German antitrust law and tech regulation Merger control Foreign direct investment (FDI) control Civil antitrust litigation He focuses his practice on the transactional and multi-stakeholder aspects of competition law enforcement, helping clients navigate complex matters in an international enforcement setup. Niklas has worked on policy and enforcement matters at the European Commission and the German Federal Government, as well as represented clients in a variety of matters before national and EU competition authorities, sectoral regulators, and courts. Before rejoining Latham in 2025, Niklas spent 4.5 years as an official in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition (DG COMP), where he worked in DG COMP’s Policy & Strategy Directorate on a large variety of EU antitrust policy initiatives, the coordination with national competition authorities, and private and public antitrust litigation. He also served in DG COMP’s Directorate J (Digital Platforms / DMA Enforcement), where he worked on numerous DMA and antitrust enforcement actions in the tech sector, as well as on policy matters. Niklas previously worked in Latham’s Hamburg office. A recognized thought leader, Niklas regularly publishes articles and book contributions on EU and German antitrust and tech regulation, private international law, and foreign investment control. · Competition Law
