Hélène VEY-MORIT is a partner in the firm’s « Competition - Distribution » and « Civil and commercial litigation » departments. Her work in the department focuses on French and European competition law, as well as distribution and consumer law. Her practice covers merger control and antitrust litigation (cartels, abuse of dominant position) before the French Competition Authority and national courts, as well as before foreign authorities (in Africa in particular). Hélène has extensive expertise in private damages claims for anticompetitive conduct. I am a Partner in Michelmores’ Commercial team, collaborating on a diverse range of matters for businesses across the UK and further afield. I focus on advisory work for large corporates and investors, including in the energy sector, as well as having a specialism in competition and related areas of law. Increasingly, our investor clients are focussed on sustainability, which has led recently to work for me within the nascent markets for credits derived from (for example) biodiversity net gain, nutrient neutrality and carbon sequestration. My previous experience in documenting arrangements for funding underpinned by credits created under the UN’s Clean Development mechanism (often then sold into the EU emissions trading scheme) has been put to good use. I trained, qualified as a lawyer (on the same day as our first fax machine was delivered) and worked on corporate transactions for several years in London in private practice, before a very interesting few years as General Counsel and latterly Company Secretary of a listed mining, minerals and chemicals group, operating globally. I then joined Michelmores, at that time located in very traditional offices opposite Exeter Cathedral; helping out on a ‘temporary’ basis on a particular project, while I looked for a longer-term role. 19 years later, I continue to be part of a remarkable journey for the Firm, which is now around five times as big as when I joined, although no longer in possession of a fax machine. Partner Ilkka Leppihalme has more than a quarter of a century of experience in competition law – including also in Brussels. He has been involved in various landmark competition cases, including the largest cartel cases in Finland and many ‘first-ever’ situations. He possesses significant experience in both national and multijurisdictional merger control procedures across a wide range of industries as well as in foreign direct investment (FDI) control. Leppihalme has represented clients in numerous significant competition law related damages cases. He defended two companies in the precedent-setting asphalt cartel damages cases until the end of the hearing in the Helsinki Court of Appeal – all of the claims against both companies were dismissed. Leppihalme has been a Non-Governmental Advisor to the International Competition Network – a network of more than 130 competition authorities – since 2010. He was one of the few members of the Competition Law Expert Group of the Finnish Bar Association in 2010-2024. Isaac’s practice focuses on commercial and financial disputes, financial regulatory proceedings, banking disputes, trust and property disputes. He is often instructed for cases with complex elements involving a multi-disciplinary angle. In addition to his advocacy work in the courts, Isaac regularly appears in regulatory proceedings before specialist tribunals such as the Market Misconduct Tribunal and the Competition Tribunal.
