Cyril-Igor Grigorieff

Dr. Cyril-Igor Grigorieff is a member of the Brussels bar since 2006 and a former member of the Paris bar. He holds the title of accredited Transport Law Specialist, granted by the Brussels and Belgian bar authorities. Cyril-Igor gained experience in matters relating to liability in a multi-jurisdictional environment, in European Union regulatory affairs and in aircraft finance in the course of his career in international law firms. He has also gained inside knowledge working on a secondment basis for an airline. He is the author of numerous publications in the field of air law. Notably, he has been one of the named contributors to the Belgian Transportation Code since 2010, and the co-editor of the first law book in French on aircraft finance (Le droit du financement des aéronefs, Bruylant, 2017). In 2021, he successfully defended his PhD study on international air law at Leiden University (Uniformity and Fragmentation of the 1999 Montreal Convention on International Air Carrier Liability, Kluwer, 2022) for which he received the best PhD award by the Air and Space Academy. Next to his practice, Cyril-Igor teaches air law, transportation law, and insurance law in various universities including Paris-Saclay University (No 1 in the EU – Shanghai Ranking) and Université Libre de Bruxelles. Cyril-Igor received many accolades for his work (Who’s Who Legal, Legal 500) and is frequently cited by the Court of Justice of the European Union. Dimitri De Bournonville

Dimitri de Bournonville has close to 30 years of experience in the aviation, transportation, commercial and insurance sectors. Dimitri has been admitted to practice in Belgium in 1995, after studies at Université Libre de Bruxelles (Licence en droit 1994, with magna cum laude) and King’s College London (LL.M. 1995 in Commercial and Corporate Law). He worked as an attorney at the Brussels Bar (from 1995 to 2003) as one of the closest associates and (non-equity) partner of Xavier Dieux at Moquet Borde, Dieux & Partners and Willkie Farr & Gallagher, in Brussels and Paris. Dimitri was also a lecturer (assistant chargé d’exercices) at Université Libre de Bruxelles for the courses of Commercial Law and Introduction to Private Law, from 1997 to 2005. Before setting up the firm, Dimitri de Bournonville was (from 2011 to 2024) the managing partner of the Brussels office of one of the prime global law firms active in the insurance, transportation and litigation sector, where he was an active member of the aviation department. Before that, he was the Legal & Insurance Director of the TNT Express Group at its head office in Amsterdam, heading a team of around 100 lawyers and insurance specialists worldwide, a function that he held from 2006 until the end of 2010. Before that, he was Head of Legal & Insurance Affairs of TNT Express in Italy (2005-2006) and of TNT Global Operations in Liege (2003-2005). Dimitri de Bournonville has extensive experience and knowledge in aircraft purchase, finance and operating leases and commercial transactions in relation to aircraft and aviation activities, cargo and passengers related. In addition, he assists airlines and other organizations in the aviation sector with regulatory matters, particularly in matters concerning the European Union. Dimitri possesses significant expertise in the general transportation, logistics and supply chain sectors and provides legal assistance as to all aspects of his clients’ activities in these areas. Dimitri was the first and only partner of an international law firm who obtained the official title of accredited Transport Law Specialist from the Brussels and Belgian bar authorities. Guillaume Mockel

Guillaume Mockel advises leading airlines, transport companies, (re)insurers and major policyholders on contentious and non-contentious matters. He also assists leading airlines on their contractual and regulatory activities and represents them before the Belgian courts in matters relating to passenger claims, noise pollution and contractual disputes. Guillaume was admitted to the Brussels bar in September 2021. Guillaume gained experience at reputable national and international firms based in Brussels, specializing in transport and aviation law. Guillaume also successfully completed an internship at the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority. He practices in French and English, and is proficient in German. He contributed to Kennedys’ Global Legal Handbook, one of our most popular guides, which outlines the main legal and procedural issues that case handlers may encounter when dealing with claims across 53 jurisdictions globally. Guillaume holds a Master of Laws in International and Public Law from the University of Brussels (ULB) and graduated from Maastricht University in the Netherlands and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in Germany, where he studied European law. · Aviation
