Attach a lease, a policy or a whole Vault folder and ask what it says, where documents disagree, or how a clause sits against the law.
How to use Alaya
Each step shows the real screen. Hover a numbered marker — or the matching note — to see what every control does.
Start from the home page
When you sign in, you land on Alaya. Everything starts from the message box in the middle of the page; your conversations live in the sidebar on the left.

Tell Alaya where your question applies
Click Set scope under the message box. Pick a country, then narrow it to the federal level, particular states or institutions — or to contract categories when you are asking about agreements.
- Scope chips appear under the message box; remove any with ×.
- Any country works — leave it on “Any country” for general questions.

Tip: Scope isn't saved with a conversation. When you reopen an older chat, check the chips before you ask a follow-up.
Add files and choose how Alaya works
Use the + button to attach documents from your computer or your Vault, and to switch web search on or off. Next to it, pick Fast for everyday questions or Pro for complex work.
- PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text and images — documents up to 25 MB, images up to 10 MB.
- Up to 30 files and 10 folders per message. Uploads are saved to Vault › Chat uploads.
- You can also drag files onto the message box, or paste a screenshot.

Ask, and watch Alaya work
Press Enter. Alaya says what it is about to do, then lists each search and source as it goes, and streams the answer in underneath.

Tip: Need to change course? Press Esc or the stop button. The partial answer stays in the conversation.
Check the sources behind the answer
Numbered citations sit next to each claim. Hover one to preview the passage; click to open the law, contract, web page or file at the cited spot. The sources pill lists every passage used.
- Amber dots are laws, violet are contracts, sky-blue is the web and green is your own files.
- “Worked for 9s” expands to show each step Alaya took.

Keep your conversations organized
Open the ⋯ menu on any chat to pin, rename, export it as Word, archive it — or move it into a matter, a folder for related chats.
- Create a matter with the folder icon next to Matters.
- Search finds chats by their name.
- Archive hides a chat; Delete removes it permanently.

Dictate your question, then choose the answer language and how detailed responses should be.
Outlook, with your approval
Connect Outlook to search mail and calendar. Drafts and events wait on an approval card — nothing is sent for you.
Tips for getting it right
Check the scope chips before you ask
Scope isn't saved with a conversation — a reopened chat starts from your location again.
Turn web search off for library-only answers
Web Search is on by default. Switch it off from the + menu or the chip under the message box.
Attachments stay with the conversation
Files you attach carry over to follow-up questions. Remove the chips you no longer need.
Verify before you rely
Open the citations on anything that matters. Alaya cites; the final judgement is yours.
Archive rather than delete
Deleting a conversation can't be undone. Archive hides it and keeps it recoverable.
Your earlier chats are still there
Use Old chats at the bottom of the sidebar to read or continue conversations from before the new assistant.
Statuses you'll see
Work that runs in the background always shows where it stands — here is what each label means.
- Thinking…Alaya has your question and is planning how to answer it.
- Searching internal laws…A search or read is running. Each finished step changes to past tense with a tick.
- Worked for 9sThe answer is complete. Click it to review every step Alaya took.
- Uploading 42%An attachment is still uploading. Send becomes available when uploads finish.
- FailedAn attachment didn't upload. Retry it or remove it to send your message.

Fast balances speed and depth and suits most questions. Pro reasons more deeply and is meant for complex work such as multi-part comparisons. Your choice is remembered in your browser.
Yes. Open the settings icon next to the message box and choose a Language — 16 are available — and how detailed Responses should be: Concise, Balanced or Detailed.
No. With Outlook connected, Alaya prepares drafts and calendar changes on an approval card. Nothing happens until you choose Approve, and drafts are only saved to your Drafts folder.
No. Alaya may make mistakes, so verify its output — especially the cited sources — before relying on it.
