Adriaan Craita

Adriaan Craita specialises in Dutch and EU competition law. In addition, he advises on foreign direct investment (FDI) regimes. Within the competition practice, Adriaan has considerable experience in merger control. He advises and assists companies in obtaining approval for a merger or acquisition from the Netherlands Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM), as well as from authorities that enforce investment regimes. Adriaan also coordinates such parallel notifications to authorities worldwide. In addition to merger control, Adriaan focuses on cartel investigations and stand-alone competition proceedings. He advises on the admissibility of distribution practices, joint ventures and abuse of dominance cases. Furthermore Adriaan's particular interest lies in the (regulatory) developments in the digital- and financial markets and in the field of competition and sustainability. Adriaan completed the LLM European Law at Leiden University in 2017. He wrote his thesis on whether passive investment strategies (in the form of Exchange Traded Funds) should be regulated under European competition law. In 2018 Adriaan joined Houthoff’s competition team in Amsterdam and also spent time at the Brussels office. During his Houthoff years he also worked within the real estate team, which gave him experience and insight into the commercial aspects of deal making. In 2020 Adriaan completed the Law Firm School in addition to the Vocational Training for Advocates of the Dutch Bar. Bas van Os

Bas van Os was admitted to the Dutch Bar in January 2024. Bas joined Maverick Advocaten as a junior associate in December 2023. Prior to this, he has been employed at Maverick Advocaten as a paralegal for two years. In 2021 Bas completed his bachelor's degree in political science and in 2022 his bachelor's degree in law, both at Leiden University where he also attended an honors program. In 2023, Bas completed his master's degree in European Competition Law & Regulation at the University of Amsterdam, in addition he took additional courses in several related areas of law. He wrote his thesis on the application of the selectivity criterion in State aid cases. During his studies, Bas completed an internship at a Zuidas firm and worked at several accountancy firms. Cyriel Ruers

Cyriel Ruers works as a lawyer in the field of public economic law, with a focus on competition law, market regulation and consumer protection matters. He has a broad experience in administrative enforcement proceedings – such as administrative fines – before inter alia the Dutch Competition Authority (ACM), the Human Environment and Transport Directorate (ILT) and the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). His competition law practice covers the full width and ranges from investigations by the ACM into antitrust infringements, merger notifications and advice on various forms of cooperation and (online) distribution. Cyriel furthermore advises companies in regulated sectors, such as telecom, aviation and energy. For example, he assisted a big telecom provider in the most recent state auction of telecom frequencies (the "5G auction"). He also assisted airline companies in proceedings on the allocation and use of scarce slots at Schiphol Airport. In the energy sector, Cyriel advised on a range of issues, including access to district heating networks and compliance with the REMIT Regulation. He also has extensive experience in consumer law. Cyriel advises and represents companies in various cases about unfair trade practices and online pricing. He has particular experience in greenwashing cases, most recently in proceedings before the Advertising Code Committee (RCC) concerning carbon offsets in the aviation sector. Cyriel also regularly advises on other administrative law issues, such as scarce permits, subsidies and public access to government information (Open Government Act, formerly Wob). Cyriel litigates on behalf of companies in civil law matters involving sector-specific regulation or consumer law. For example, he successfully defended an airline in proceedings brought by the Dutch Consumers' Association (Consumentenbond) and represented a telecom provider in various damages actions brought by a competitor regarding network access and access tariffs. Cases that Cyriel has worked on: Representation of an international energy company in civil (damages) proceedings against the Dutch State regarding the mandatory closure of coal-fired power plants in the Netherlands; Assisting an international electronics company against a EUR 39 million fine by the ACM for alleged prohibited vertical influence on retail prices; Successful summary proceedings on behalf of two Dutch airlines against the slot coordinator (ACNL) regarding the application of new slot allocation rules. Assisting a major telecom provider during the latest State auction of telecom frequencies; Successful defense of a major telecom provider against a EUR 115 million damage claim by a competitor based on the abuse of a dominant position. In 2021, Cyriel completed the Grotius specialization course in General Administrative Law. He has written academic articles in various journals, most recently in the Journal for Consumer Law and Commercial Practices (Tijdschrift voor Consumentenrecht en Handelspraktijken) on the use of pricing algorithms and the Journal for Energy Law (Tijdschrift voor Energierecht) on access to district heating networks. Previously, Cyriel wrote articles for SEW, JBPlus and contributed articles for inter alia the Aviation Law Review. Cyriel obtains at least ten training credits annually in the legal practice area competition law in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar. Diederik Schrijvershof

Diederik Schrijvershof has experience in all areas of European and Dutch competition law. Diederik has extensive experience with complex merger control issues, including second phase proceedings at both the European Commission and the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets. He also assisted companies during dawn raids. Diederik submitted leniency applications to these authorities besides working on cartel investigations and proceedings. He advised companies on co-operation and distribution agreements and allegations of abuse of a dominant position. Diederik is familiar with the ins and outs of competition law in various sectors. Seconded to Shell as antitrust counsel he gained experience with competition law in the oil and gas industry. He also has in depth knowledge of the healthcare and pharmaceutical sector. In 2010 and 2011 he was employed as a regulator by the Dutch Healthcare Authority. He is a frequent speaker and contributor to journals on competition law. Judith Jansen

Judith Jansen is a lawyer in the field of European and Dutch competition law and sector-specific regulation. Judith specialises in administrative law topics, such as penalty payments, administrative fines, damage, compensation for loss and EU law issues. She assists companies in legal disputes with public authorities such as The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and the Netherlands State. Judith also advises companies on various food law topics, such as sustainability, recalls, food safety and labelling. In addition, Judith has experience with various aspects of competition law. She advises companies on matters relating to the prohibition of abuse of dominance, unlawful vertical agreements, exchange of competitively sensitive information and legal enforcement by the European Commission and the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM). Judith was admitted to the Dutch Bar in February 2019 and joined Maverick Advocaten in August 2023. Previously she worked at another law firm where she focused on competition law and food safety. Kim Mulder

As a lawyer, Kim Mulder focuses on the life sciences, pharmaceuticals and healthcare sectors. She specialises in admistrative law and health law with a focus on regulation under European and Dutch law. She has extensive experience with a wide range of legal issues relating to both the product side and the healthcare side. For example, she advises and litigates on clinical research, the marketing and reimbursement of medicines, medical devices and foodstuffs, and advertising for these products. She also advises and litigates on topics such as healthcare contracting and reimbursement, client rights, privacy and integrity/governance. In her professional practice, Kim regularly interacts with regulatory authorities, such as with various regulators, such as the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ), the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) and the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). She previously worked as a legal advisor and solicitor at the IGJ, where she gained knowledge of how such a regulator works in practice. Since leaving the IGJ, she has been using this knowledge to assist companies and healthcare providers in regulatory investigations and enforcement procedures, such as administrative fines and procedures involving the imposition of remedial measures or, for example, when (clearly factually incorrect) information is at risk of being made public. In this context, it is important to be well prepared for a supervisory investigation so that enforcement can be avoided as much as possible. Kim has been with Maverick Advocaten since 2026. Kim completed the Grotius specialisation course in General Administrative Law with distinction. She taught subsidy law at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. Laura Al Siameri

Laura Al Siameri has been working as a lawyer at Maverick Advocaten since February 2026. Laura obtained her bachelor's degree in Law from Radboud University in Nijmegen. She then completed her master's degree in Health Law at the University of Amsterdam. Her master's thesis on the re-issuing of unused medicines was awarded a 9. In addition to her master's degree, Laura took additional courses in various related fields of law, further broadening her legal knowledge. During her studies, Laura gained practical experience at a law firm and various legal aid centres. She also worked at the Immigration and Naturalisation Service, part of the Ministry of Justice and Security, where she gained experience in the practical application of laws and regulations. Laura has also been active in high-level ballroom dancing for many years, a sport in which precision and cooperation are key. Marnix van Hemert

Marnix van Hemert is a lawyer specialising in Dutch and European competition law, state aid and public procurement law. Marnix assists companies in obtaining approval for mergers, acquisitions or joint ventures from regulators such as the ACM, the NZa, the BTI or the European Commission. In addition, Marnix advises companies on the prohibition of cartels and the prohibition of abuse of a dominant position. Marnix has extensive experience in guiding companies through the tendering process, including advising on bids and litigating award decisions. He also advises companies on European state aid rules. Marnix has been working at Maverick Advocaten since April 2026. Martijn van de Hel

Martijn van de Hel has comprehensive experience of European and Dutch competition law. He has advised businesses in many sectors on different forms of collaboration such as joint ventures, distribution and franchise agreements and purchasing combinations. He also has considerable experience in leniency applications and with dawn raids and cartel investigations by the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) and the European Commission. He is an experienced advisor on cartel-related damage claims (follow-on claims). Martijn has advised many businesses and public bodies on state aid and unfair competition from the government. He has supported many companies in notifying the ACM and the European Commission of mergers or takeovers. He lectures frequently at seminars and training institutes and has penned numerous articles. Mats Reijman

Mats Reijman is a lawyer in the field of European and Dutch competition law and sector-specific regulation. Mats has experience in administrative enforcement proceedings - such as administrative fines and orders under penalty - before The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), and with various aspects of competition law. He advises companies on matters relating to the prohibition of abuse of dominance, and unlawful (pricing) agreements. Paul Breithaupt

Paul Breithaupt is a lawyer in the field of European and Dutch competition law and sector-specific regulation. Paul regularly assists companies in obtaining approval for mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures from the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) en the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM). Furthermore, Paul advises companies on matters related to merger control (including gun jumping), abuse of dominance and collaboration agreements. Saskia Stolk

Saskia Stolk was admitted to the Dutch Bar in February 2023 and has been working at Maverick Advocaten since June 2022. Saskia graduated from Utrecht University with a Master’s degree in Corporate Law in 2021. She pursued the track International Business. In her thesis, she researched the Digital Markets Act. Subsequently, Saskia graduated cum laude from Temple University Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia with a Master’s degree in American and International Law. She also received the Professor Peter Sevareid Award for outstanding achievement in academic studies. Saskia graduated from Utrecht Law College, the honours programme for the Bachelor’s degree in Law at Utrecht University. Besides this, she obtained a Minor in International Relations. Sietske Brinskma

Sietske Brinksma was admitted to the Dutch Bar in September 2022 and has been working at Maverick Advocaten since December 2025. She has international experience in the field of competition and trade law and is specialised in Dutch and European competition law and FDI regulation. She completed both the Professional Training Programme for Lawyers and the Law Firm School programme. In 2020 and 2021, Sietske obtained her Master’s degrees in European Law and International Business Law from Tilburg University, graduating cum laude. In both programmes, she specialised in competition law, and her dissertations were awarded grades of 9 and 8.5 respectively. In 2020, she received a Certificate of Excellence in competition law from Tilburg University.
